Come on Over (2007)

Come on Over is the first collaboration between choreographer Clare Thurman and poet Nathan Thomas, aiming to create a performance that seamlessly blends dance and poetry.

Unfolding across five distinct movements, the stark interplay between Clare's dancing and Nathan's poetry is underlined by the bareness of the staging: no music, minimal set, simple lighting and costumes. Come on Over is about boundaries: whether they be boundaries between each other – of language and culture, defence and protection; or internal borders separating Self from Other, the familiar from the unknown. In parts playful and meditative, childlike and surreal, Come on Over seeks to explore the experience of being on the edge, of arriving at the border between the known and the unknown, and asks the question: dare we cross that line?
